Tursack History

words test press sheet dsc_1594_s Digital Direct is a division of TURSACK

1959:
Founded in 1959 by Robert Tursack, Sr., TURSACK Printing had its start printing hot dog labels in the basement of Tursack’s Philadelphia, PA home.  Tursack had a vision to provide high-quality printing and impeccable customer service at a fair price.  To this day, that vision continues to be carried out.

1960s:
In response to increasing demands in the late 1960s, Bob Tursack, Sr. decided it was time to expand the business.  The decision was made to move from Tursack’s basement to a new location in the suburbs of Philadelphia.  With the change of scenery also came two new presses: a one-color Heidelberg Kord and a one-color Chief.

1970s:
By the early 1970s TURSACK had built a healthy client base in Philadelphia, and by the mid-1970s the company moved into a new 20,000 square foot building in Bucktown, PA.

1980s:
The 1980s marked a new chapter in the TURSACK Inc. book.  Tursack sold the company to his son, Bob Tursack, Jr.  While Bob, Sr. stayed with the company in a sales capacity, Bob, Jr. focused his attention on color management and the growth of the business.  During this time TURSACK also added its first 40-inch press to its fleet, and by the mid 1980s the company had expanded its clientele to include New Jersey and New York City.  TURSACK began printing high-quality, limited-edition artist reproductions, and the company added its second 40-inch press.

1990s:
By the early 1990s TURSACK was experiencing growth at a furious pace.  In an attempt to meet customers’ needs for fulfillment TURSACK Fulfillment (now Digital Direct) was formed.  To remain competitive in the industry and provide the best and most updated products and technologies to customers, TURSACK added its first black and white digital press to its fleet.  In April 1998, the company was purchased by Consolidated Graphics.  Under the Consolidated Graphics philosophy, TURSACK maintains sole responsibility for providing personalized and responsive service to customers. At the same time, TURSACK is backed by a large organization with substantial resources, including management expertise, purchasing power and the technology investments necessary for growth.  With the acquisition two more 40-inch presses were added and with the addition of a 50,000 square-foot building in Honey Brook, PA, TURSACK Fulfillment became Digital Direct.

2000s:
At the turn of the century TURSACK Printing added 20,000 square-feet to its building in Morgantown, PA, while Digital Direct added an additional 40,000 square-feet to its facility in Honey Brook, PA.  Moreover, Digital Direct installed its first digital color press, the Xerox Doc40.  At TURSACK Printing, a Bobst die cutter, folder gluer and a second stitcher were added to the bindery operations. In the later portion of this decade TURSACK again experienced substantial growth and installed the 10-color Man Roland 700 series press.  Digital Direct added two Igen 3s to their fleet of digital presses and increased its fulfillment warehouse by 15,000 square feet, bringing the combined square footage for both buildings to over 180,000.

2010s:
In the midst of a challenging and ever-changing business   environment, TURSACK Inc. is committed to providing creative and innovative printing solutions to our customers.  By utilizing the resources of the Consolidated Graphics network, TURSACK Inc. will continue its quest to stay ahead of the technology curve and offer new and innovative products.  As Consolidated Graphics continues to grow its network, TURSACK Inc. will continue to provide the best “one-stop shopping” for all of our customers’ print and fulfillment needs.
